The Surf Ballroom & Museum gladly accepts narrated/guided tour reservations for groups of 30 or more. Please make reservations at least two weeks prior to your group's visit. Reservations may be made by calling Laurie Lietz or Nicki Barragy at (641) 357-6151 or emailing

Surf Ballroom Guided Tour Experience

Tour planners should plan on an approximate 90 minute stop when visiting the Surf Ballroom. The standard group tour consists of a video presentation, guided tour, designated volunteer/staff person to assist group and free time to peruse gift shop and other areas of the ballroom.

Payment is due in full upon group's arrival to the venue.

There are adequate restroom facilities for the group and lunch may be catered and served in the lounge area of the ballroom, if desired.

Surf Ballroom Student Tours

Free educational programming for grades preK-12 taught on-site in the Museum or in the classroom. Programs are offered Monday-Friday from September 6, 2011 through May 25, 2012 between 8-11 am. Super Stars (Grade Levels preK-2)

Music of the 1950's and 1960's will be explored through books, songs and movement. A portion of the time will be spent looking at the types of instruments used during that era in rock 'n roll history.

U Rock (Grade Levels 3-6)

This lesson weaves together types of guitars and famous players from the 1959 Winter Dance Party Tour and other influential performers in rock 'n roll history. Students will have a chance to express themselves through body percussion and singing.

Rock 'n Roll 101 (Grade Levels 4-8, 6-12)

This lesson reflects on the history of the Surf Ballroom and the Winter Dance Party. Students will be exposed to video clips, museum artifacts and songs of various artists who have had a significant impact on rock 'n roll history.

Fifties Forever (Grade Levels preK-12 -- On Site Only)

A unique tour of the Surf Ballroom. Activities include a short video, special keepsake for each student, as well as a scavenger hunt-Ballroom style (1 hour). Pack a lunch, sit in the booths and experience those songs that changed rock 'n roll forever out on the dance floor (2 hours).
