Photos, Memories & Narratives Sought for Surf Ballroom Pictorial History Book

Do you have Surf Ballroom memories? Are you knowledgeable about the Surf's history? Would you like to help preserve that compelling history? Then this is the project for you. The Surf Ballroom & Museum is in search of photographs, memories and narratives to feature in a Surf Ballroom Pictorial History Book.

"The Surf Ballroom has an incredible history, and one of our non-profit organization's goals is to continue to collect and archive pictures and memorabilia that will immortalize the many years of music and memories made here," stated Laurie Lietz, Executive Director.

The book will cover the history of the venue from its beginning in 1933 when located across the street from its current location, to more recent memories from 1948 to present-day after the Surf was rebuilt following a fire that destroyed the original Surf on April 20, 1947. Vintage photographs become increasingly fragile over time, but by scanning and reproducing them in a book, they become available for all to see and enjoy. Every contributor will receive proper credit in the book and will have his or her photos returned after they have been scanned. All images will be considered for inclusion.

Once printed, the book will be made available for sale through the Surf Ballroom gift shop and web site. For additional information or to submit a photo and description, contact the Surf Ballroom at (641) 357-6151 or stop in at 460 North Shore Drive, Clear Lake.
